Donald M. Elliman, Jr. (representing Children’s Hospital Colorado on the FRA Board) -- In February of 2011, Mr. Elliman was named Executive Director of the Charles C. Gates Center for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Biology. From June of 2009 to January of 2011, Don served as Chief Operating Officer for Colorado. In that position he assisted the Governor in the management of all State agencies. He was also the Chair of the Colorado Recovery Accountability Board, with responsibilities for oversight of spending in Colorado under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. From 2007 to 2009, he was Director of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, and from 2000 to 2004, he served first as President of Ascent Sports and then as President of Kroenke Sports Enterprises. He retired from Kroenke as he became Chair of the Children’s Hospital Board and co-chair of the campaign to raise funds for the new Hospital. Prior to his time at Kroenke, Mr. Elliman worked at Time Warner for thirty-two years, retiring as an Executive Vice President of Time Inc. He currently serves on the Boards of Children’s Hospital Colorado, Middlebury College, Colorado State University and The Gates Family Foundation.

William Freytag, PhD -- Dr. Freytag currently serves as a member of the board of directors for three health care companies: GlobeImmune, BaroFold, and BiOptix Inc. Dr. Freytag was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Aspreva Pharmaceuticals from July 2007 until its merger with Galenica AG in January 2008. Prior to Aspreva, Dr. Freytag was President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Myogen, Inc., a company that started in the bioscience incubator at Fitzsimons, from July 1998 until Myogen was acquired by Gilead Sciences in November 2006. From October 1994 to May 1998, Dr. Freytag was a Senior Vice President at Somatogen, Inc. Prior to Somatogen, Dr Freytag was President of Research and Development at Boehringer Mannheim Corporation, an international healthcare company. He received a B.S. from Purdue University and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Kansas Medical Center.

James C. T. Linfield -- As Partner-in-Charge of the Colorado office of Cooley LLP, Mr. Linfield's practice focuses on representation of public and private technology companies and venture capital funds, with an emphasis on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and strategic alliances. He has deep experience advising start-ups, venture-backed companies, public entities and investors across a wide variety of industries, including biotechnology and medical devices. Prior to joining Cooley, Mr. Linfield worked in the biotechnology industry for two and a half years as Chief Financial Officer and General Counsel of Somatogen, Inc., where he helped lead the company to a successful initial public offering. He received his A.B. magna cum laude from Harvard College and his J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School. He also serves as Chair of the Governor’s Advisory Committee on Venture Capital Investment, is a member of the Executive Committee of the Colorado BioScience Association, and is a member of the Technology Transfer Advisory Board for the University of Colorado. 

David Perez -- As President and Chief Executive Officer of the combined businesses of CaridianBCT and Terumo Transfusion—soon to be Terumo BCT, Mr. Perez also serves as Chairman of Terumo Corporation’s Blood Management Business board. He is responsible for leading the strategic direction, growth and execution of this combined global organization with revenues in excess of $830 million. Under his leadership direction, the companies will integrate and innovate, together, to serve customers and their patients, who are the ultimate beneficiaries of the lifesaving gift of blood.  A dedicated and active industry leader with nearly 30 years of experience within the medical device and health care industries, Mr. Perez also lends his expertise to numerous boards and councils. He serves the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) on the board of directors and on the Executive Committee, chairing both the Technology and Regulatory Affairs Committee and the Blood Products and Technology Sector. Mr. Perez is also chair of the board of trustees for the National Blood Foundation (NBF); a member of the NBF Council on Research and Development; and a board member of the Foundation for America's Blood Centers® and the Colorado BioScience Association.  Prior to joining CaridianBCT in 1999, he held leadership positions at UroTherapies Inc., Haemonetics® Corp., Caremark LLC, Coram Healthcare Corp. and Kendall. Mr. Perez earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Texas Tech University.

Other FRA Board members include: Bruce Benson, President, University of Colorado; Bruce Schroffel, President, University of Colorado Hospital; John Shaw, Principal, McWhinney; Lilly Marks, Vice President for Health Affairs and Executive Vice Chancellor of the Anschutz Medical Campus; Dwight Rider, Principal, Fruend Investments; and Councilwoman Melissa Miller from Aurora who will be joined by two other elected officials to be named by the Aurora City Council.

The Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority (FRA) is expanding its Bioscience Park Center (BPC) by roughly 50% with an $8 million, 37,000-square-foot accelerator structure. The new accelerator space will be leased to existing tenants graduating from the incubator and other companies in the modest growth stage. - December 12, 2011

The Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority (FRA) is adding four of the area's most well-known and successful leaders in the Bioscience Industry to its Board of Directors. Change in board composition is the result of a strategic refocus for the FRA, and those recently appointed to the board include: Donald M. Elliman, Jr.; William Freytag, PhD; James C. T. Linfield; and David Perez. - November 15, 2011
